The name swastika comes from Sanskrit (Devanagari: स्वस्तिक) meaning 'conducive to the well being' or 'auspicious'. In Hinduism, the symbol with arms pointing clockwise (卐) is called swastika, symbolizing surya ('sun'), prosperity and good luck.
